I could never have imagined how much my life would change after the Bake Off. It’s been amazing. I’m looking forward to a summer full of food festivals, events and teaching people how to bake at my courses at Seasoned and The Cheshire Cookery School.
If you do happen to like food festivals, i’ll be at all the Great British Food Festivals, Cake and Bake Show Manchester, Good Food Show London, Banbury Food Festival, Ludlow Food Festival, Thame Food Festival, Alderburgh Food Festival, RHS Tatton Park, Bolton Food Festival and The WI Centenary Fair to name but a few. Please please come and say hi and if you have time grab a seat and watch one of my demos.
If you fancy trying my baking I hold regular afternoon teas at the Farmers Arms in Poynton, Cheshire. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for dates.
A few weeks ago I was back at the Bake Off tent filming the class of 2014 programme. That was a surreal experience to say the least, immediately it felt like home. I also had the pleasure of having lunch with some of my fellow bakers in the “baker room”. The memories of those sunny (and sometimes stressful!) days in the tent came flooding back.
The most exciting thing that’s happening very soon is my book Bake It Great is out on the 20th August. I can’t believe it’s come round so quickly. When I sat writing and testing all the recipes over the winter now seems a distant memory and i’m just waiting for a preview copy to arrive any day soon.
I really put my heart and soul into Bake It Great. I’m really passionate about baking and wanted to share the way I do it. I’ve really focused on how to apply my own techniques into the readers own baking, inspire and most importantly prevent failure. Every recipe goes into real detail on how to make it, bake it and when to know it’s ready. Also, really importantly, how to make bakes look amazing and give them the wow factor.
I’ve put some real diversity into the recipes included in Bake It Great to hopefully give you all something new to try. I particularly hope the chapters on Spanish baking and honey will take the reader down some new flavour combination avenues with lots of bakes never seen before. My mum’s Spanish olive oil and aniseed doughnuts are a must try and unique, I would definitely recommend giving them a go.
There’s also some unusual twists on familiar bakes and one or two surprises in there too. Each chapter has quick and easy bakes through to the more complex and highly rewarding showstoppers.
So if you do pick up a copy please let me know how you get on and please please feel free to give me feedback. I’m in totally new territory here and would love to know what you all think.
